The NaKu organic planting bag for nurseries

NaKu plant bag for Energy Globe

We're participating in the Earth category

We competed with the "NaKu plant bag" in the soil category Energy Globe Award, an environmental prize. The submission deadline was February 11, 2021. The Energy Globe Award honors sustainable projects that focus on resource conservation, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies.

The NaKu plant bag was developed for the “Books for Trees” project by the HBLFA Gartenbau Schönbrunn. The aim of the school project is to raise awareness of the consequences of deforestation in the project areas in Kenya, to support natural regeneration through reforestation, to make self-planted trees attractive as a source of income and to anchor trees as part of rituals in the long-term tradition.

In 2017 there was finally a ban on plastic bags in Kenya and the PE bags previously used for growing the seedlings were forbidden. So the school contacted us and within a few days we developed a prototype plant bag made of natural plastic. In addition to being biodegradable, our plant bags had other advantages such as being guaranteed to be free of microplastics, permeable to air and retaining water, so that the roots were permanently moist for better growth. Due to the ability to rot by itself, the NaKu plant bag is not only environmentally friendly, but also makes work easier. The farmers can easily plant the plants with the sack and do not have to remove it beforehand and then dispose of it.

The clear advantages for plants and the environment give NaKu the incentive to further develop this product for plants other than trees, so that hobby gardeners can also switch to a practical and inexpensive alternative without pollutants or microplastics.
