Bridge labels are used daily in the food retail industry and in fresh produce packaging. They identify products quickly, reliably, and visibly, but conventional PVC or thermal paper-based versions leave behind chemical residues and microplastics. NaKu bridge labels offer a consistently sustainable alternative, made from bioplastic based on rapidly renewable plant-based raw materials, certified compostable, and completely free of thermal paper.
Net packaging is among the most common packaging formats for fresh produce, and this is precisely where NaKu bridge labels demonstrate their strengths. Water-resistant, tear-resistant, and visually appealing, they reliably withstand wind, moisture, and fluctuating temperatures. Conveniently available on rolls and also suitable for simple packaging applications.
Printed label made from bioplastic
The NaKu bridge labels are printed on both sides:
- Front: Full-color printing for logos, product images, variety names or color codes
- Back: Direct printing for article numbers, weight, origin or mandatory information
Suitable printers for printing the bridge labels are available directly from NaKu. This eliminates the need for thermal paper entirely. Conventional thermal paper contains chemical coatings, including bisphenol A (BPA) or similar substances, which act as pollutants during composting or disposal, negatively impacting the circular economy. NaKu bridge labels and the appropriate printer prevent this release of pollutants. At the same time, ongoing costs are reduced because expensive thermal paper consumables are no longer needed.

The environmentally friendly packaging
The clear advantage of these bar labels, besides being made from rapidly renewable, plant-based raw materials, lies in their complete compostability. Unlike conventional PVC bar labels, they leave no persistent microplastics behind, neither in the soil, nor in the compost, nor in the plant itself.
PVC door labels break down into microplastics over time. These microplastics enter the soil, can be absorbed by plants, and accumulate in the environment. This risk does not exist with NaKu door labels. The biopolymer film decomposes into biomass as it rots, leaving no chemical residues and no persistent microplastics.
Combination with NaKu clip nets: The fully compostable net packaging
Specifically for packaging fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables, or onions, NaKu offers a coordinated system solution. The bar label can be directly combined with the compostable NaKu clip nets.
What makes this combination special: the clip, net, and bar label all come from the same polymer family . This means the entire packaging unit consists of a single, homogeneous material, without metal clips, paper composites, or inseparable material mixtures.
In conventional net packaging, metal clips, plastic nets, and paper or film labels are often firmly bonded together. This mixture of materials causes significant problems at the end of life (PPWR). Separating the materials by type is virtually impossible, and recycling fails due to the combination of different materials.
The NaKu solution avoids this problem at its root:
