Raw materials for the production of natural plastic
Bioplastic/natural plastic and the natural raw materials
In principle, bioplastics can be produced from various renewable raw materials. Any material containing starch can serve as raw materials for natural plastics (natural plastics/bioplastics/bioplastics). Some examples of natural plastics include corn, potatoes, sunflowers, grains, and sugar.
NaKu uses a corn starch compound for its breathable bioplastic food storage bags. This corn starch comes from European agriculture and is GMO-free.
We require different technical properties for the production and subsequent use of different bioplastic products. For example, NaKu bottles use PLA and rPLA (lactic acid) as raw materials. This PLA is made from sugar.
Our bioplastic carrier bags are compostable according to DIN 13432 and made from renewable resources. Their size and thin appearance make them ideal for collecting organic waste. In this case, the bag can be composted along with the rest of the waste and can still be used effectively even after its end of life, even after multiple uses. However, if our compost collection bags are thrown away empty, disposing of them in the plastics collection system is more suitable, as the bag can then be recycled instead of composted. Our NaKu bottle also fits perfectly in the plastics collection system and can therefore be included in the recycling process.

A completely new development is that NaKu also uses sunflowers as a raw material for its sunflower display. In an upcycling process, sunflower husks, a waste product from cooking oil production, are used as raw material for bioplastics.
In addition, many other materials can be used to produce bioplastics. To further improve our materials, additives such as oils, resins, cellulose, vitamins, water, and the like are used.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Which raw materials does NaKu use to produce bioplastics?
NaKu uses various renewable raw materials containing starch, such as corn for its breathable food storage bags. The bottles are made from PLA (lactic acid), which is derived from sugar. In addition, waste products such as sunflower husks are also recycled.
Are genetically modified raw materials used in the products?
No, NaKu makes its breathable food storage bags from a GMO-free starch compound made from European corn.
What are the other components of NaKu bioplastics?
To improve the material properties, NaKu adds other natural substances to the raw materials, such as oils, resins, cellulose, and water.
