Johann Zimmermann NaKu - Contribution to the economy

NaKu in “The Economy”

A new article about NaKu has appeared in “Die Wirtschaft”.

The newspaper article deals with NaKu (Natural Plastic), which produces compostable carrier bags and transparent bottles from a fully compostable, plant-based material. The founder of NaKu, Johann Zimmermann, emphasizes that their latest product, the 120% sustainable NaKu PLA/rPLA bottle, is 100 percent renewable and already contains 20 percent bioplastic recycling.

Companies like the Styrian company Wildalp have opted for NaKu and use their bottles for bottling fresh spring water. Food producers in France and America have also shown interest in NaKu. In Africa, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are looking for compostable alternatives for plant bags, since plastic bags have been banned there since 2006. When the project could not find suitable alternatives for the root balls, NaKu was contacted and shipped over 30.000 fully decomposable plant sacks to Kenya.

The article also mentions the challenges that NaKu had to face in order to develop the ideal sacks that stand up to the demands. The right thickness had to be found to ensure a service life of eight months outdoors without waterlogging.

The founder Johann Zimmermann remembers that they started 15 years ago with a fresh storage bag that can also be used as a garbage bag. However, due to communication issues, NaKu diversified their product offering and optimized it for specific applications such as freezer bags, bio bags, plant bags and most recently a cheese sleeping bag. Zimmermann is confident that packaging made from natural materials will become increasingly popular and states that nowadays it is unthinkable to fill an organic drink in a PET bottle. NaKu also recently developed reusable organic packaging for organic cosmetics with freemee cosmetics.
