NaKu on ORF III

The plastic bag dilemma

On March 1, 2021, at 20:15 p.m., ORF III broadcast a report on the topic of plastic bags. The camera crew visited our premises in June 2020. Our managing director, Mr. Zimmermann, was interviewed about bioplastics and our products. We appear in the film starting at minute 33.

The documentary shows the impact of plastic on the environment. It also examines the advantages and disadvantages of alternatives. Interestingly, paper actually fares worse than plastic. However, there are significant differences among bioplastics.

Our natural plastic is both renewable and biodegradable. This sets it apart from many other bioplastics. Our NaKu bags are OK Compost Home TÜV-certified. Our corn is grown in Europe without genetic engineering and processed without harmful substances.

The report shows bioplastic bags being buried in the ground. After six months, they are dug up again. OK Compost Home certified bags are supposed to be 90% degraded after six months. However, this only applies to composting. Degradation is faster in compost heaps, where more microorganisms are present. In soil, it takes a little longer – but the material still degrades.

That's difficult to say. It depends on the soil microflora and the temperature. We utilize precisely this slowed-down process in our NaKu planting bags . The plant is planted together with the bag. The bag retains moisture at the roots until it decomposes, ensuring better plant growth. NaKu planting bags are available in our webshop.
