NaKu at innovation event to prevent plastic pollution
How can we effectively prevent plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives?
On Monday, our Managing Director, Johann Zimmermann, participated in a highly interesting event organized by alchemia-nova, dedicated entirely to the question: How can we effectively prevent plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives?
The event brought together experts from research, industry, start-ups, and politics to present innovative solutions and discuss the future of sustainable packaging.
Three central topics were in focus:
- Alternatives to plastic: status quo and outlook
Daniel Steinitz from the Alliance for Microplastic-Free demonstrated how problematic single-use packaging is – especially in the fresh food sector – and how urgently the transition to packaging-free or biodegradable solutions is needed. - Inspiration for innovation: Focus on plastic-free solutions
In this session, Johann Zimmermann presented NaKu's bio-based packaging solutions, which are based on renewable raw materials and represent a real alternative to conventional plastic. - Panel discussion: From innovation to market
In the concluding discussion, Johann Zimmermann spoke with representatives from BOKU, BMLUK, Mondi, VLIZ, and 123Zero about the challenges of scaling up sustainable solutions for the market. Topics such as certifications, political frameworks, and regional supply chains were discussed in depth.
This event once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration and exchange in driving the transition to a plastic-free future. NaKu is delighted to be able to contribute with innovative bioplastics solutions.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions about this event under the motto “How can we effectively prevent plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives?”
What was the goal of the innovation event on plastic pollution prevention in which NaKu participated?
The event served as a forum for the exchange of experiences between companies, researchers, and policymakers to jointly develop solutions to plastic pollution. NaKu presented its bio-based and compostable packaging solutions as a concrete alternative to petroleum-based plastics. The goal was to demonstrate how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand—and how real progress can be achieved through new materials.
What concrete solutions did NaKu present at the event?
NaKu presented its bioplastic packaging films, which are made from plant-based raw materials and are industrially compostable. These films are free of microplastics and harmful substances, yet offer high functionality – for example, for food, textiles, or specialty products like chicken coops. The presentation demonstrated how versatile and practical these sustainable packaging materials can already be used today.
Why are events like this important for consumers?
Such innovation events promote the shift toward sustainable consumption. For consumers, this means they gain insight into new, environmentally friendly solutions and can consciously choose products that don't contribute to plastic pollution. At the same time, such events strengthen the dialogue between manufacturers and consumers – and help advance transparent and responsible product development.
