Review: NaKu on the Sustainability Island at the Donauinselfest 2025

NaKu on the Sustainability Island at the Donauinselfest 2025 – InnoWAP presentation

The NaKu information stand at the Donauinselfest 2025

From June 20 to 22, 2025, NaKu was part of the first-ever Sustainability Island at the Donauinselfest in Vienna – and it was a resounding success! Under the motto "Experience Sustainability – Participate – Understand," visitors were able to experience firsthand how bioplastics work and what contribution they can make to a more environmentally friendly future.

Our interactive stations – such as the bioplastics cycle, the composting of organic products, and the popular "Fake or Real?" organic bag quiz – generated great interest. We were particularly pleased to see how many people engaged intensively with the topics of bioplastics, recycling, and the circular economy. This shows us that awareness of sustainable materials is growing.

We were also able to provide detailed information about the recently launched InnoWAP project , in which NaKu NaKu is involved. The InnoWAP project aims to develop an innovative value creation strategy for the use of locally sourced aquatic plants. The focus is on aquatic plants from the Old and New Danube in Vienna, as well as aquatic plants, particularly reeds, from Lake Neusiedl.

A special highlight was the visit of Vienna's Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig to our information stand. We had the opportunity to personally inform him about the advantages of bioplastics, their recycling possibilities, the closed bioplastics cycle and the future-oriented InnoWAP project to inform us. His interest in sustainable innovations delighted and motivated us.

We would like to thank all visitors who discussed, tried out and learned with us.
