Limited, signed edition of the art calendar "More than 40.000"
The art calendar for the project “More than 40.000” by Art Studio Hamburg
We are delighted to hold the limited edition of the art calendar "More than 40.000" signed by the artists Irina Ahrend-Liu and Xiaomin Liu (Artstudio Hamburg). This special art calendar is printed on the environmentally friendly NaKu biopolymer film at Renner Print Media GmbH.
special features of the material
The NaKu biopolymer film used to make the calendar is produced from rapidly renewable plant-based raw materials such as sugar and cornstarch. It contains neither wood nor conventional plastic and is completely biodegradable. This special film is ideal for applications where conventional films need to be replaced with environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives. It is recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable, making it particularly suitable for products that could end up in nature, as no permanent microplastics are produced during decomposition.

background of the project
More than 40.000 animal and plant species worldwide - including almost 9.000 in Germany - are threatened with extinction. Huge amounts of plastic waste in the sea endanger many animal species. The artist couple Irina Ahrend-Liu and Xiaomin Liu are drawing attention to this problem with their expansive art installation "More than 40.000".
About "More than 40.000"
The installation refers to the number of species threatened with extinction worldwide, which are regularly published on the "Red Lists" of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The joint project by Irina Ahrend-Liu and Xiaomin Liu provocatively and poetically reflects one of the greatest social challenges of our time: the destruction of our own habitat caused by humans, exemplified by "plastic waste in the world's oceans".
Art – Nature – Climate
Even the first images of humanity in the form of cave paintings were depictions of animals. The project spans an (art) historical arc about our treatment of nature and visualizes our abusive treatment in the form of a macabre modernization of historical animal images: an animal portrait trapped in a plastic bottle.
