InnoWAP Update: Innovation through exchange!
Thank you for the inspiring exchange at the InnoWAP harvesting workshop!
Many thanks from NaKu and Johann Zimmermann for the inspiring exchange at the InnoWAP harvest workshop on January 27, 2026!
Armin Winter summed it up perfectly during this workshop – quote: “𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙝𝙩 𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙩 𝙞𝙢 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙞𝙣, 𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝙞𝙢 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙜 𝙯𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙜, 𝙒𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙛𝙩 𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙪𝙩𝙯.“
Together we explored the future uses of locally sourced aquatic and marsh plants – and the great opportunities they offer. It was particularly exciting to see once again just how much potential these plants have for producing packaging materials and the crucial role strong project partnerships play in research and development.
What role does NaKu play in the InnoWAP project?
NaKu is a partner in the InnoWAP research project and is working together with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna and partners such as Flatz, Lenzing AG, Berky, and others (see original post) to develop bio-based, compostable packaging solutions made from aquatic plants. The goal is to utilize local biomass streams (e.g., the Danube and Lake Neusiedl) as a sustainable alternative to fossil raw materials – and thus an important step towards circular, regional value creation.
