Guest lecture at the Central European University
Main topic: Microplastics – guest lecture by NaKu
The guest lecture: We were recently invited as guest lecturers at the Central European University in Vienna to speak about microplastics and their impact on the environment and human health. The lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the threat posed by microplastics and highlighted various aspects of bioplastic decomposition and composting, as well as the recycling of bioplastics.
An illustrative topic of the lecture was the rotting and composting of products made of bioplastics using the example of the NaKu PLA/rPLA bottle and the NaKu biobag in industrial compost according to DIN 13432. Johann Zimmermann explained the plastic cycle using the NaKu Double Loop of Sustainability and explained the challenges and possibilities of recycling bioplastics.
Special attention was also paid to the different types of plastic and the quantities of plastic produced across Europe. The need to find sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics in order to reduce environmental impact was highlighted.
The event was also open to master students of environmental sciences and environmental policy, who already have a good sense of environmental issues and their complexity. The lecture offered them valuable insights and promoted their understanding of the challenges and solutions in dealing with microplastics and bioplastics.
NaKu will be giving further lectures and attending events ; you can find out more here. You can find out more about the Central European University in Vienna here.
