Bioplastic recycling

Bioplastic recycling – how it works at NaKu

Recycling – Natural plastic/bioplastic is very easy to recycle

Recycling bioplastics – sustainable, resource-efficient – NaKu's vision is to combine recycling and organic with its products. Natural plastics, first and foremost, are recycled and are also very easy to recycle. Even though the quantities are currently very small, it's important to combine the two key aspects of sustainability – regrowth and recycling. Therefore, we prefer to see our NaKu bioplastic products in the yellow bag or in the plastics collection system.

With our products, both sorting and recycling work very well, and in the final step, the recovery of the molecular building blocks. This depolymerization means recycling raw materials, and we find it easier with lactic acid to avoid any loss of quality.

Our bioplastic carrier bags are compostable and made from renewable resources. Their size and thin design make them ideal for collecting organic waste. In this case, the organic bag can be composted along with the waste and remains useful even after its end of life. However, if our compost collection bags are thrown away empty, disposing of them in the plastics collection system is more suitable, as the bag is recycled rather than composted. Our NaKu bottle also fits perfectly in the plastics collection system and can therefore be included in the recycling process.

We believe recycling bioplastics makes more sense than allowing them to decompose, and we hope that raw materials will be reused in the future, which is why recycling will play a significant role. Unfortunately, recyclers still lack the necessary quantities and material flows.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can NaKu products be recycled?

Yes, NaKu products made from bioplastics are highly recyclable. Recycling allows the raw materials to be reused without any loss of quality. Both mechanical and chemical recycling processes are possible.

Should I compost or recycle compostable NaKu carrier bags?

If you've used the organic carrier bags for organic waste, you can compost them along with your organic waste. The organic carrier bags are labeled with the OK Compost Industrial or OK Compost Home seal. If the bags are empty and uncontaminated, disposing of them in the plastics collection system is the better option for recycling and thus bringing the raw materials back into circulation. Please note the different requirements of your local waste disposal companies.

How does recycling differ from composting for NaKu?

NaKu sees recycling as the more sensible option, as the raw materials can be reused. Composting converts the waste into biogenic material, but recycling preserves the valuable materials for new products.
