What is NaKu?

NaKu is short for "Natürlicher Kunststoff", which is German for Natural Polymers. At first, the name seems to be a contradiction, which was exactly why we decided to use it. We use natural and renewable resources for our materials and manufacture them into products which are very similar to conventional plastics.

Since it is possible to combine nature and synthetics in a whole new way, we felt the name fit perfectly. In our opinion, the combination of nature and technology is no contradiction, but an important basis on which more industrial processes should be built upon.

Who is NaKu?

NaKu still is a relatively young and small business enterprise. We are a family-run, self-financed enterprise, owned and led by Ute and Johann Zimmermann. Ute is head of the sales department and Johann is responsible for research & development at NaKu.

How did NaKu originate?

Johann Zimmermann studied Plastics Engineering as well as Business Administration and has worked in the distribution of high-performance plastics for a long time. In course of this work he came across natural polymers for the first time. The vision of renewable plastic that can be conducted in a technical cycle really fascinated him, mainly because such plastics cause less damage to nature. On the 30 May 2007, after several years of testing and research he decided to produce products made from this material, and founded NaKu.

What is  NaKus target? What is the company's philosophy?

In our philosophy natural and technical cycles play a central role: for example a good produced from renewable resources can be returned to nature after being used, or CO₂-output is reduced by keeping the transport ways as short as possible. We try to obtain our resources from European production areas, process them as locally as possible and also try to keep the distribution channels as short as possible to improve the Life Cycle Analysis of our products.
